Some of you will remember than in mid-September I had some issues with my email account. Basically my university offered the chance to migrate to an "upgraded" account which wound up being glorified gmail. This is a problem because Gmail while nice, is not secure and cannot be used by research assistants like me. After going for 2 weeks with no email whatsoever, I finally got my old account back. Everything was find and dandy until a week ago when suddenly, I stopped getting email.

At first I thought I had just hit a lag in the emails. That happens occasionally. But the days stretched on and I was getting nothing. Last night, I sent myself a test email. This morning it wasn't in my inbox.

There's a place where you can go to check to see where your email is forwarded to. I am very familiar with this page because this is where IT kept sending me when I was having email problems before someone with half a brain realized that if it didn't work the first six times I changed it, it wasn't going to work the seventh and maybe something else was wrong. I went there just to check.

At some point setting changed from the correct email address to the account that is unusable to me. Unless I'm going crazy (and granted my mental state right now is a little unstable as I try to figure out how to get this mess sorted out), I sure as hell didn't change it. Either is happened spontaneously or someone thought that because I had the umail account I must want all my email to go there and changed it. I AM FURIOUS.

I have changed it back and am now waiting for the change to take affect (instantaneous my ass) so I can forward all the emails I've missed over the last week to my actual email account as opposed to the insecure one.

Then IT is getting a very, very nasty email because I told them almost a month ago I wanted this unsecure email account deleted so stupid shit like this wouldn't happen.

Why yes, IT, I would love to lose access to all my emails. That is exactly why, when I did something stupid last week, I immediately emailed you on how to fix it. I do not appreciate being told that it'll be five days before anything can be done. Then once those five days pass? The way you suggested? DIDN'T WORK. And now I have no email.

Today has NOT been a good day. Especially since I have to have all the stuff for my internship done by Friday and now I cannot access any of my emails about it.
