Saga of the Car

Last night, [info]miome presented me with a carrot cake she had made topped with very, very good not too sweet cream cheese icing. Why the cake? As a "thank you" for...

On Tuesday night, rather than work on my project that was due the next day, I suggested we head out to Home Depot to look at curtains. We'd found a pair of curtains we both really liked at Lowe's last weekend, but despite our careful measurements, they were too short. So we returned them and discovered the manufacturer didn't make them in any size larger. Our next stop was to be Home Depot.

[info]miome has a Prius (hence forth called "Prius-chan"). Prius-chan has a electronic key remote. Basically you approach the car with the key on your person, lift the handle, and Prius-chan blinks her lights (Yay! Mommy wants to go somewhere!) and the door opens. if you leave the key in the car, Prius-chan flashes her lights and refuses to lock the doors. Theoretically, this means that you can't lock your keys in the car.

Theoretically.

Sometimes, the censors on a Prius don't sense the key even when it's sitting right there in the back seat, I can see the purse it's in through the damn window. This means that, despite the conditioning of a hundred other previous times where the car warned you, you can lock yourself out of a Prius. This is what happened in the parking lot of Home Depot.

Neither Miome nor I really had a lot of options. Her phone was in the purse along with the keys. My phone was sitting at home and the spare key for Prius-chan was there as well. Neither of us could call of friends or relatives to come bail us out. There wasn't a bank around and I had a grand total of five bucks in cash on me. That negated calling a cab. I did have my house & car keys on me. There was only one thing to do.

We walked home (thankfully, it only got dark once we were at the apartment complex). It took us about an hour to get there. Once there, I found the spare for Prius-chan. Then we both got into the Rust Bucket my car, drove back to Home Depot, and unlocked Prius-chan. Then we went home where I frantically began trying to finish my project for the next day.

That was how I got a carrot cake with cream cheese icing.

^_^ This is why I would worry about that car that parallel parks itself. Though, since I think it is a Lexus, I won't ever have to worry. I fell in love with a Lexus years ago, then saw the sticker price. I decided that I will never buy a car that costs as much as a house, no matter how rich I ever get. No Lexus for me.

Yay, for nice long walk on a lovely autumn day? ^_^ Mmm, carrot cake...

Oh dear. ^^; Well, if it makes Miome feel any better, I locked my keys in my car six times during the first year I was driving. >.> Two of them on the same day... x.x;;
